VALDOSTA, Ga. - As day one concludes at Kinderlou Forrest Golf Club, the Carson-Newman Eagles sit in fifth place thanks to good days from Elliot MacGregor and Jonathan Nielsen.
MacGregor, the Shepperton, Middlesex native, shot a 73 in round one on the par 72. Round two saw MacGregor shoot even for a total of 145 on the day. MacGregor was tied for 15th with his teammate Jonathan Nielsen (Hørsholm, Denmark). Nielsen had a mirrored performance of his teammate MacGregor, shooting an even 72 in round one and a 73 in round two. Coach Randy Wylie was pleased with the two's performance and hopes that better days from the rest of the Eagles tomorrow will shoot them up the leaderboard.
"Not our best day today," Wylie said. "We expect better tomorrow. Jonathan Nielsen and Elliot Macgregor both played solid, after that everyone has a lot of room to improve and we expect to do that tomorrow."
Day one of the Super Regional Preview saw the rest of the Carson-Newman group settle in around the middle of the leaderboard. Alex Hodge shot a 74 in round one and a 73 in round two for a total of 147 and good enough for a 26th place tie. Will Collins shot an even 72 in round one, but round two saw him shoot a 77. Collins's 149 total day tied him for 35th. Individually, Jackson Tyler shot a 75 in each of the first two rounds for a total of 150. Tyler finished the day tied for 41st. Jake Mynatt rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with a 76 in each round. The total score of 152 tied Mynatt for 46th.
The final round will begin tomorrow morning. Live scoring can be found on GolfStat, and full recaps will be posted to cneagles.com.
