Eagles hold steady at seventh in Golfstat poll

INDIANPOLIS, Ind. - The Carson-Newman men's golf team will open the spring season the same way they ended the fall season, ranked seventh in the Golfstat poll released on Feb. 23. 

Carson-Newman wrapped up the fall season finishing third at the Southern Tide Intercollegiate in Milton, Ga. Jonathan Nielsen took home the individual championship at the event, finishing seven-under and leading the field with 18 birdies over three rounds of play. 

The Eagles are joined in the top-10 by fellow SAC member Lincoln Memorial, who sit at fourth in Divsion-II. Limestone also joins the Eagles in the rankings, ranked 12th in the poll. Barry holds the top spot in Division-II according to Golfstat. 

In the individual poll, Nielsen sits at fifth in all of Divsion-II. Nielsen is averaging a score of 70.8 after nine rounds of play in the fall. 

His teammate Alex Hodge is not too far behind him, ranked 24th in all of Division-II. Hodge is averaging a score of 70.5 after six rounds of play in the fall, including a fifth place finish at the Queens Fall Invitational.

Jackson Tyler sits at 77th in Division-II. Tyler finished at even-par at Queens and recorded a season-high 18th place finish and the South/Southeast super region preview event. His teammate Jake Mynatt sits at 95th in Division-II after shooting eight-under and finishing seventh at Queens in the fall.

Will Collins rounds out the rankings for the Eagles at 111th. Collins shot even-par at Queens earlier this season and finished 20th at the Cougar Invitational. 

Austin Fulton of West Georgia currently sits at first in the Dvision-II individual rankings. 

Carson-Newman currently holds the top spot in the NCAA Southeast Regional poll and are ranked sixth in the Golf Coaches of America national poll.
