NORMAN, Okla. - For the first time in his career, Jonathan Nielsen has earned All-Region honors, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Tuesday, May 17.
Nielsen was one of 22 men's golf athletes and one of just seven SAC men's golfers named to the Southeast All-Region squad.
The sophomore was named First Team All-SAC this season. Nielsen recorded five top-10 finishes, including a new course record at the Atlanta Country Club earlier this season, with a nine-under, 63 in the second round of the Southern Tide Intercollegiate. Nielsen went on to win the individual event championship at the tournament with a seven-under 209 for the week.
His one-under, 71.0 stroke average is a new single-season program record, beating out Thomas Forster's 71.1 average from the 2019-20 season. Nielsen and the Eagles recorded an average three-round score of 286.6, a new program best average. The mark beats out the previous best score of 289.4 set in the 2020-21 season by over three strokes.
Nielsen is the first Eagle to earn GCAA All-Region honors since Forster earned his third straight honor following the 2018-19 season.
