AUSTIN, Tex. – Carson-Newman Men's Tennis earned just its second CSC Academic All-American, and the first in nearly 20 years.
Marnix Van Dalen (Netherlands) was tabbed as a Third Team Academic All-American after being named to the Academic All-District Team a few weeks ago. The business major has compiled a perfect 4.00 GPA majoring in Business.
The 2024-25 Academic All-American® Tennis teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
Van Dalen is the 80th Academic All-American in Carson-Newman Athletics' history, and the 59th since 2014, marking the second most honorees since that year in the conference, with only Wingate having more honorees.
He becomes the sixth Academic All-American for the Eagles Athletic Department this year after Jack Browder, John Zhao, and Nick Brenegan of Men's Basketball, Asger Hartvig of Men's Swimming, and Emma Bowling of Women's Swimming.
Van Dalen was honored by the South Atlantic Conference for his performances on the court and in the classroom. He was named to the conference's All-SAC teams for singles and doubles and also won the conference's Elite 23 award, which highlights the top GPA by a student-athlete at the conference tournament site.
He is the first Academic All-American to come from Men's Tennis for Carson-Newman since Preston Sneed in 2007, also named a third-team selection.
Carson-Newman Men's Tennis's season was highlighted by an upset of Lincoln Memorial in the SAC Quarterfinals to clinch a spot in the conference semifinals.
