C-N Match Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's soccer (9-3-3, 7-2-1) travels to crosstown rival Tusculum (9-3-4, 3-3-4) for its final regular season game of the 2022 season.

The Eagles have already clinched the No. 3 seed in the South Atlantic Conference tournament heading into tomorrow's match. Simon Duffy's team will host a quarterfinal match for the fifth time in his six seasons at the helm.

Duffy's team will be well-rested and ready to go on Wednesday against the Pioneers. C-N's last match came on Oct 15, a 1-1 tie with No. 8 Catawba. Eleven days between games is the longest stretch this season.

Leading the second-best offense in the SAC is senior Jente Kuper, and sophomores Sydnee Duncan and Nellie Bryneus, who are tied for the team lead with four goals scored this season. 14 different Eagles have booted home a goal this season, with 9 of the 14 goal scorers having done so multiple times.

Senior Addie Henry and junior Abbie Zander each have a team-high five assists. 9 other C-N players have assisted on a goal this season.

In her first collegiate season, freshman Laura Germes has been terrific for C-N. In 14 games played, she has led the team to six clean sheets and has made 39 saves. The Haarlem, Netherlands native has 14 saves over her last three games. She is top five in the SAC in goals against (10) and goals-against average (0.77).

C-N is 3-2-1 on the road this season. Under Duffy, the Eagles are 20-6-3 against the SAC on the road.

With a scoreless draw aganist Wingate last time out, Tusculum secured a SAC tournament berth. The Pioneers are currently tied for 6th and can finish between 6th and 8th in the final standings. TU is tied with Wingate for 6th with 13 points, both one point ahead of 8th place Newberry.

A Tusculum win and a Wingate tie or loss to Coker, would give the Pioneers 6th place. They could also earn 6th with a draw and a Wingate loss.

The Pioneers enter the final day of the regular season on an eight-match unbeaten streak. Their last loss came to Catawba back on Sept 24.

Graduate student Rosy Wodhams, senior Brianna Garcia, and freshman Taylor Youmans each have a team high six goals scored this season. Freshman Sydney Grant follows in closely behind with five goals of her own this season. Youmans is tied for 2nd in the SAC with seven assists this season.
