JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman (4-2-2, 3-1) faces another unbeaten team when the Coker Cobras (3-0-2, 2-0) come to Mossy Creek for a conference matchup Saturday.
The Eagles enter the matchup on a three-game winning streak. C-N has taken down two unbeaten teams during the winning streak.
It marks the eighth consecutive year Carson-Newman women's soccer has won at least three game in a row. During the current winning streak, C-N has outscored its opponents 10-1.
C-N enters the match in second place in the South Atlantic Conference standings with nine points, trailing Lenoir-Rhyne by just one. The Eagles rank third, in the conference, in goals, assists, and shots per game.
Sophomore Nellie Bryneus and freshman Selina Jud lead the team with three goals scored. Jud's two goals in the win against Emory & Henry on Wednesday makes back-to-back games in which a C-N player has scored two goals.
Senior Addie Henry leads the team in assists (3), shots (23) and shots on goal (13). 10 different Eagles have scored a goal this season, while nine different players have recorded an assist.
Coker enters the match unbeaten in five matches to begin 2022. The Cobras tied two non-conference matches, before beginning conference play with 1-0 victories over Mars Hill and most recently Tusculum.
Through the five matches, the Cobras have been stout defensively having not allowed a goal this season. Goalkeeper Sarah Swaim has made ten saves to help lead to the five shutouts.
Five different players have scored the five goals this season and two others have assisted on goals.
Coker is the only SAC school that has not allowed a goal this season. They are one of just three teams in the NCAA that have not conceded a goal. The other two teams being Drury and Truman St.
"They're good," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "They're unbeaten, they haven't given up a goal. We are well aware of that and we will give them the upmost respect in that regard, but we need to be at our best. Coker is going to be a really tough opponent and we need to be ready for them when we step foot on the field."
When the two teams take the field, it will be the ninth all-time meeting. C-N has dominated the series leading 6-1-1. The Eagles have won six straight, including a 9-0 victory last year over the Cobras.
Under Duffy, C-N is 34-7-5 at home and 20-4-1 against SAC teams. The Eagles currently have an eight-game unbeaten streak at home.
Saturday's match at McCown field will begin at noon.
