Eagles sweep SAC weekly honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore midfielder Sydnee Duncan and Freshman goalkeeper Laura Germes were announced as offensive and defensive players of the week by the South Atlantic Conference earlier today.

Carson-Newman is the first SAC school to sweep weekly honors this season.

Duncan earns her second weekly honor of her career. The sophomore is the only C-N player to earn offensive player of the week in the last two seasons.

She earned player of the week honor for her two goals scored in the win over Wingate on Saturday. Both of her shots in the match were goals. She has now scored ten career goals in just 22 games played.

It's the third time Duncan has scored multiple goals in a game. In her freshman season, she scored two goals against Shaw on Oct. 6th, the goals coming three minutes apart. Her other multi-goal was a hat trick performance against Coker on Oct. 23rd.

Germes receives her first weekly honor. C-N earned just one defensive player of the week honor last season, coming from keeper Lily Ebner.

In the two games last week, the freshman recorded eight saves and one clean sheet. She put together the clean sheet with three saves in the win over Limestone on Wednesday.

She recorded a career high five saves in the win over Wingate on Saturday, while also saving a penalty kick. The saved penalty kick was the first time by an Eagles goalkeeper since Jackie Burns did it against Queens on Nov. 12, 2017.

The Haarlem, Netherlands native, in her six starts this season, has only allowed five goals. She's made sixteen saves with a goal against average mark at 0.83.

C-N returns to the field tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. for a road matchup with Emory & Henry.
