Eagles look to rebound against Ohio Dominican

 Match Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- The Carson-Newman women's soccer team (0-1-0) is back in action tomorrow morning when it takes on Ohio Dominican (0-1-0) for an 11:00 am kick off from the Roy Conn Sports Complex.

This is the first time since 2018, that Duffy's squad will have one day off in between matches. It was in the SAC women's soccer championships, when it beat Catawba in the semifinals on Nov. 2 and then fell in the championship game to Lincoln Memorial on Nov. 4.

Despite losing the season opener, the Eagles did not lack for offensive opportunities. C-N outshot Cedarville 16-13. Sophomore Nellie Bryneus led the attack for C-N recording three shots, all of which were on goal. Returners Addie Henry and Carina Wust each added two shots. Newcomers Sanne Martinsen and Maja Bengtsson had two shots in their Eagles debut as well.

10 of the 20 players that played in the match recorded a shot attempt.

Junior Jenna Rehm recorded four saves in her debut in the net for C-N. Cedarville's goals against the Eagles came in the 22nd minute and 86th minute.

Ohio Dominican also kicked off its season Thursday, when it was defeated by #7 Lee, 4-1. The game was scoreless at halftime as junior goalkeeper Jadelyn McNerney collected five saves. The Panthers survived 19 shot attempts in that first half. ODU could not hold on for much longer, as Lee scored a goal in the first 23 seconds of the second half and then two more goals in the next 22 minutes.

The Panthers lone goal came from Devin Schoenberger, who recorded two of the three shots for ODU. The Panthers were outshot 35-3 in the match.

In the 2022 Great Midwest Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, Ohio Dominican was picked 4th. The Panthers return their top scorer in 2021 in senior forward Callan Myres collected six goals and five assists.

Carson-Newman went undefeated (4-0) after a loss in 2021. The last time C-N lost back-to-back matches was at the beginning of the 2018 season. It lost both matches in the CSU Collegiate Invitational. The first loss was 2-0 on Aug. 31 against West Florida and then a 3-2 loss to Columbus State on Sept 2.
