Duffy announces home heavy 2023 schedule

VIDEO: Simon Duffy Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head women's soccer coach Simon Duffy has released the Eagles' 2023 women's soccer schedule, featuring a historic ten home games and six games against NCAA tournament teams from 2022.

"We kind of fell a bit short last year", Duffy said. "We kind of sputtered and stuttered right at the wrong time, the last couple of games. A result against both and we're knocking on the door for a regional bid and going to the national tournament. For us we wanted to make sure that our non-conference slate prepared us and got us ready to try and do that."

10 of C-N's 16 regular season matches this season will be on McCown Field's brand new turf field, the most home matches in a regular season in program history. Since Duffy took over the program in 2017, the Eagles are 38-7-5 at home.

Carson-Newman kick starts the season with two home non-conference matches against North Greenville on Aug 31, and Lee on Sept 2. The matchup with North Greenville will be the second all-time meeting, the first having been in 2019. When the Eagles meet the Flames, it will be just the third all-time meeting and the first since 2010.

"I think we are going to have one of the finest facilities not just in our league, but in the country," Duffy said. "To open up at home will be a bit special. That opening game here on Thursday. I'm just super excited for our players and our new players coming in to see what we have is special.

The first road trip comes on Sept 6 with a visit to Young Harris. The Eagles are coming off a 4-0 victory over the Mountain Lions in 2022.

The South Atlantic Conference slate begins with a home matchup against Anderson on Sept 9. Its next five games to end September will all be against SAC schools, but with only one of those matchups coming at home, a Sept 20 date with Emory & Henry.

Once October begins, C-N will play six of its final seven games of the season at home, including a date with Limestone on Oct 28, homecoming weekend.

"I'm happy that we are home for homecoming," Duffy said. "Delighted with that and to be so home heavy down the stretch of the season."

The Eagles have two non-conferences games scheduled in October, Bluefield State on Oct 18 and Columbus State on Oct 23. The Cougars made it all the way to the final four before falling to Western Washington in NCAA semifinals to finish the year 19-3-2. The Eagles will face the Cougars for the first time since 2018.

C-N wraps up the regular season with a home matchup with Tusculum Nov 1.

All Carson-Newman home games will be available on the Eagle Sports Network on FloSports.
