Women's Soccer program recognized for team academic success for seventh straight year

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The Carson-Newman women's soccer program has earned a Women's Team Academic Award for the seventh straight year from the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced Tuesday.

A total of 783 soccer teams (295 men, 488 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2021-22 academic year. Of that total, 145 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized.

Carson-Newman fielded a 3.66 team GPA. Carson-Newman has been recognized for the award every year of Simon Duffy's tenure as head coach of the program.

"I'm incredibly proud if the players once again for achieving at a high level in the classroom," Duffy said. "We set standards for the team on and off the field, and having the team achieve such an award like this for not only one but seven straight years is a glimpse of what we strive for at Mossy Creek."

Carson-Newman was one of three women's soccer programs from the South Atlantic Conference to be recognized and one of seven for both genders. Carson-Newman's 3.66 GPA is the highest soccer-related GPA in the league.
