Carson-Newman Women's Soccer Forwards Position Preview

Addie Henry Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – This is the beginning of a three-part series previewing the 2022 Carson-Newman women's soccer season. We will start up front with the Carson-Newman forwards.

Head Coach Simon Duffy enters his 6th season leading the Eagles and he returns 25 of 31 goals scored from a season ago. The team's top forward this past season was Nellie Bryneus. She tied for the team lead in points (16) and assists (4). Bryneus was second on the team with six goals scored.

Addie Henry returns for her senior season with the Eagles. Henry has made 36 starts in 39 games played through her first three seasons with C-N.

"Experience is helpful and playing quality teams," Henry said. "We have some of the best teams in the country in our league and that has been helpful getting that challenge over the years."

She is coming off her best season with C-N, scoring four goals and assisting on two other C-N goals.

Joining Bryneus and Henry as returners up front are juniors Molly Bukiewicz, Carina Wust and Abbie Zander and senior Mic Kriebel. The quartet combined to play in 57 games in 2021.

C-N adds two newcomers up front in graduate transfer Sanne Martinsen and freshman Anita Arnadottir. Martinsen transfers in from Mars Hill where she scored 21 career goals. She was named to the All-SAC Second team for her six goals scored in 2021.

The Eagles as a team finished 5th in the SAC in goals scored and 4th in assists. This group of forwards strive to take their scoring ability to another level this season.

(Last season) "We had a lot of opportunities we could've put away and didn't, but I think we have the squad to do even better this season," Henry said.

Part two of the position previews will highlight the midfielders with sophomore Sydnee Duncan scheduled to be released on Saturday. Carson-Newman opens the season on Aug, 25 in Cleveland, Tenn. when it takes on Cedarville.
