C-N welcomes Newberry for Senior Day

 C-N Match Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman women's soccer (6-2-2, 5-1) quickly turns its attention to a Friday afternoon match with Newberry (3-6-1, 2-3)

The game has been moved up a day due to heavy rainfall expected all day Saturday. This matches the quickest turnaround for the Eagles, as they only had one day off in between matches against Cedarville (25th) and Ohio Dominican (27th) to begin the season a month ago.

The match will now kick off tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. and serve as C-N's senior day.

The Eagles will honor five seniors, Jente Kuper, Addie Henry, Elena Propst, Mic Kriebel and Sanne Martinsen. The senior day presentation will take place at halftime of the men's game.

"I can't even put into words right now what they mean for the program," Carson-Newman head coach Simon Duffy said. "We'll hopefully honor them with a good win."

Yesterday's win extends C-N's home unbeaten streak to eleven games. It also gave the Eagles their fifth straight win, all coming in South Atlantic Conference play.

The five-game winning streak is the longest since 2018. That season, C-N had winning streaks of six and eight.

Balance has been the answer all season for Simon Duffy's crew. Four different players scored the four goals yesterday, with junior Savannah Fields scoring her first of the season. She became the eleventh different C-N player to score a goal this season.

Eleven Eagles have also assisted on a goal this season. Senior Addie Henry leads the team in assists with three.

Newberry (3-6-1, 2-3) enters the match coming off a road loss yesterday to Wingate 1-0. The Wolves two wins in league play came against Lincoln Memorial and Emory & Henry, both shutout wins.

Becca Lipp leads the Wolves with three goals scored. The team has only scored seven goals this season, which is the second lowest mark in the SAC.

Kalee Opalka has started all ten matches in goal. She has made 29 saves and allowed 11 goals.

"Newberry will be a tough opponent," Duffy said. "They are a very well-organized team, so we have to come out out and give them our best.

Under Duffy, the Eagles are 22-4-1 against the SAC at home and 2-0 this season. They are also 56-2-2 when scoring two or more goals and 5-0 this season.

C-N has won seven straight matches against Newberry and leads the series 20-6.
