JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's soccer coach Simon Duffy has announced the addition of Matthew Perry as an assistant coach for the women's soccer program.

"I've known about Carson-Newman for a long time," Perry said. "One of my good friends, Greg Evans, graduated from here. He is one of my good friends. I was actually recruited by Carson-Newman when I was a freshman. Came in for my interview and loved the facilities, loved Simon and how he came across and the way he made me feel welcome. I did not have to take much time to think about coming here."

Perry joins Duffy's coaching staff after a two-year stint at Life University as a graduate assistant in the women's soccer program. He completed his Master's of Science degree in Exercise Science.

He is also currently the head coach for the Women's Premier Soccer League U21 team. He has previous coaching experience with Coerver Performance Academy, Sporting Springfield, Fair Grove High School girl's soccer and Dixie High School junior varsity head coach.

His college playing days ended in 2019 after a four year career at Erskine College. While playing for the Flying Fleet, Perry appeared in over 60 games and helped lead the team to the conference tournament final his senior season, narrowly missing out on a spot in the NCAA National Tournament. He was an outside back on the pitch and his play on the field and leadership ability led him to being named captain his junior and senior seasons.

The Shropshire, England native earned his Bachelors of Science in physical education and coaching in 2019 from Erksine.

"Obviously my job is to support Simon as best I can," Perry said. "I think the best way I can help is letting the girls know that they are talented enough to win conference titles and get to national tournaments."
