Blakemore named SAC Women's Swimmer of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Kyla Blakemore named SAC Women's Swimmer of the Week after posting two national qualifying times on Saturday.

After back-to-back wins for the Eagles this weekend, Kyla Blakemore has been named the swimmer of the week for her performance in the fifth week of the season.

Blakemore secured two national qualifying times against Lees-McRae this past Saturday in the women's 200-yard backstroke (2:01.33) and 200-yard medley relay (1:42.79). In her leg of the relay, Blakemore finished with a time of 25.86. Racing with Blakemore in the event were teammates Breanna Belcher, Manon Compagner, and Kennadi King.

"It's something we have been working towards, so we are super excited about that. We all have been working really hard, so just seeing the results and seeing it pay off is just really exciting. I'm glad the team is doing well. It's a great feeling leading up to midseason, and we are hoping to see even better results next week," Carson-Newman women's swimmer Kyla Blakemore said.

Blakemore placed first in both of her national cut events, and she also took gold in the 100-yard freestyle against Milligan Friday in 53.06. The Eagles concluded the weekend with back-to-back combined team wins against Milligan University (258-152) and Lees-McRae College (286-118).

Blakemore and the Eagles will swim again tomorrow at the three-day Tennessee Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn. The invite will begin at 10 a.m.
