JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—The Eagles' women's golf team travels to Carmel, Indiana, on Monday to kick off its 2023 fall season at the University of Indianapolis Fall Invitational.
Head women's golf coach Jessica Shepley makes her head coaching debut with the Eagles and is excited for her team's opportunity to compete.
"I'm excited to see my girls play golf finally," Shepley said. "It has been a long summer, so I'm just excited to see them compete.
Shepley has only had the chance to watch her team play in qualifying and in practice, but she expects a high ceiling for the team heading into the fall season with a good variety of newcomers and experienced golfers.
"I think we have a wide selection," Shepley said. "We have a freshman, a couple of sophomores, juniors, and seniors that are playing… we have a lot of excitement and some experience so I'm expecting really great things."
Returners Hannah Holland, Madison Cline, and Ida Peterson look to provide the experience for the Eagles on the course.
"These girls hit it long, and they hit it well," Shepley said. "I think we're going to have a good fall."
The Eagles return to Prarie View Golf Club after competing in the event last season, finishing 9th as a team.
"It's nice having some players that know that are familiar so that practice rounds are a little more effective," Shepley said. "Knowing where pins will be and knowing what course conditions will look like."
With the Eagles taking the course for the first time this season, Shepley's message to the team is simple.
"I just want us to continually get better," Shepley said. "Just using each practice to get incrementally better and also to understand that we have a long season ahead of us."
Shepley and the Eagles will get their first look at the 2023 fall season on Monday at 9:00 a.m.
