Eagles SIt in 5th Amongst a Tightly Packed Conference Field After Day One of SAC Championships

SALISBURY, NC – In a tightly contested conference field, Carson-Newman sits in 5th after day one of the SAC Championships, shooting a 308 in round one to finish the day at 24-over.

Third-Team All-SAC selection Ida Petersen led the Eagles in the first round, shooting a 76 to finish the day tied for 15th at 5-over. The sophomore shot par for most of the round to help limit the damage of six holes over par and shot four consecutive pars on holes 14 through 17 before a bogey on 18 to shoot 5-over.

Caroline Nemes and Hannah Holland sit tied for 19th after a 77-stroke first round.

Despite two bogeys on the front nine, Nemes settled in with five straight pars to end the first nine holes. On the back nine, however, Nemes gained four strokes of a handful of bogeys on the last nine holes of the round to finish at 6-over.

Hannah Holland had a similar round to Nemes, settling in after a trio of bogeys on the front nine with three straight holes at par heading into the back nine. Despite four bogeys in the last nine holes, Holland helped limit the impact with a birdie on 17 to finish the round at 6-over.

Macy Bromley comes shortly after, sitting tied for 25th after day one with a 78. It was an up-and-down first round for the freshman, shooting three birdies in the first 18 holes, but seven holes over par put her total at 7-over par. Despite some struggles throughout the first round, the Eagle freshman finds herself in a solid position after day one.

Rounding out the Eagles is Madison Cline, tied for 41st after shooting an 81 in the first round. Despite a handful of holes over par throughout the first round, Cline finished strong with a birdie on hole 14 and her final two holes at par to finish the day at 10-over. Like Bromley, Cline is in a good position to climb in the coming rounds.

As a team, C-N sits just four strokes behind Lincoln Memorial and six strokes behind Wingate and Catawba, who sit tied for 2nd. Anderson leads after the first day with a 289-stroke performance as a team in round one.

The Eagles will have a chance to climb the leaderboard in round two of the SAC Championships, starting tomorrow at 9 AM.
