JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Following an impressive sophomore campaign, Carson-Newman women's golf's Ida Petersen has been named to the South Atlantic Conference Third Team.

"It means a lot to me," Petersen said.  "I have put a lot of work into my golf game this season… I was struggling early on, and now I am really fighting for good scores out there, and I'm still hoping that better scores will come."

Petersen joins Limestone's Claudia Hastings and Pennie Osterberg, Lincoln Memorial's Rachel Mathieson, and Anderson's Paige Paolucci in the SAC's Third Team.

The sophomore out of Copenhagen, Denmark, shot a 76.4 average and had multiple stellar rounds throughout the season, with her two best rounds coming near the end of the season with 72s in the third rounds of the Jerry Surrate Memorial and the Lady Bearcat Invitational.

Petersen saw steady improvement in her placing throughout the year. She finished the fall strong with a fifth-place finish at the Music City Invitational and kept the momentum going into the spring, finishing no lower than 16th. The sophomore notched back-to-back top-ten finishes, placing sixth at the Battle at Hilton Head and 8th at the Jerry Surrate Memorial.

Petersen's round totals trended in the right direction during the spring season, and she cites the guidance of first-year head coach Jessica Shepley as a big part of that success.

"I think she has helped us a lot," Petersen said. "Not only on the course but also on the mental side... Mental health is a big part of the game, and I think she has handled certain situations well."

Heading into the season's last event at the SAC Championships, Petersen looks to continue trending in the right direction and help the Eagles to a solid finish.

"I'm hoping to shoot to shoot some low scores out there," Petersen said. "I've been working really hard, and I think my swing looks great at the moment… I've been working on my putting, which I've been struggling with, so I'm hoping to see a huge improvement in that."

Petersen and the Eagles kick off the three-day event on Sunday at 9 AM at the Salisbury Golf Club in Salisbury, North Carolina.
