Cummins leads second place Eagles after day one of UINDY Invitational

CARMEL, Ind. – After one full day of action at the Prairie View Golf Club, Carson-Newman's Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) is sitting comfortably inside the top five golfers. Cummins's six-over performance after day one was enough to propel the Eagles into a tie for second place after the first two rounds. 

Coach Kelsey Hutson was very pleased with the results she saw in her first tournament with the eagles. She said "Maeve had a great first round this morning of 70. Everyone on the team played very competitive and consistent."

"Girls contributed to get better even in round 2. Ellie Haughton shot 73 on the second round. The girls did great. Just really proud of their ability to not give up and keep fighting. We are also leading the field in par 3 with an average 3.00. Big strength in our scores."

Round one did see Cummins shoot up the leaderboard early. Thanks to her two-under performance found herself sitting in first place after the opening 18 holes. Not too far behind Cummins was her teammate Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) with a six-over performance. Round one also saw Ana Herrera shoot a 79, which landed her at T28. Ashley Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) was able to shoot an 80 and stay tied for 33rd, while her sister Hannah Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) just one stroke behind her at 81. Caroline Nemes rounded out the scoring for the eagles with an 83, good enough fot T51. The Eagles totaled a score of 306 to stay in third place after round one. 

Consistency was the name of the game in round two for the Eagles. As the Eagles squad shot a collective 302, every Carson-Newman golfer was able to keep their scores within seven strokes of each other. Leading the Eagles this round was Ellie Haugton's 73. Haughton was able to vault up the leaderboard twelve spots. She sits T11 after the first full day. Although she dropped two spots, Maeve Cummins was able to lock herself into the top five after the first full day with her two-over performance. Caroline Nemes was able to rebound in round two with a solid two-over perfomance as well. Ana Herrera was able to score herself a 77, and Ashley Holland was right behind her with her 78. Hannah Holland rounded out the second round for the Eagles with an 81.
