No. 15/22 C-N in top two after day one at Jekyll Island

Day 1 Results

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - One round is in the books on Jekyll Island, and Carson-Newman Women's Golf is sitting narrowly in second place.

As a group, Carson-Newman finished 14 over par with a grand total of 302. The group sits one stroke ahead of third place Central Oklahoma, and just four strokes behind first place Columbus State.

The Eagles can thank solid efforts from Maeve Cummins, Ana Herrera, and Hannah Holland for their second place resting spot. Cummins, who has consistently been leading the scoring for Carson-Newman this fall, finished the day just two over par at 74. Her back to back birdies on holes 2 and 3 gave her a cushion as she trekked through the front nine. The two-over round one total gives Cummins a share of fourth place.

Hannnah Holland's 75 first round came thanks to birdies on holes four and eleven. Holland was able to hold on to a share of sixth place with teammate Ana Herrera. Hererra was able to shoot for par for most of the day. A birdie on hole one was able to give Hererra a cushion as she bogeyed four times throughout the rest of the course.

The next closest Eagle on the leaderboard on day one was Ellie Haughton. Haughton would struggle on the front nine, shooting five bogeys. However the back nine would see Haughton recover and shoot for par on every hole except a birdie on 16 and a double bogey on 18. Haughton ends the day with a score of 78 and a share of 21st place.

Ashley Holland, who competed as an individual, ends her first day ten over par. Holland would finish tied for 50th. Caroline Nemes finished her day with a score of 83 and tied for 58th.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow morning to conclude the tournament. Live scoring can be found on BirdieFire, and a recap can be found on cneagles.com.
