JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - Carson-Newman is yet again on the podium with a second place finish after two rounds in Jekyll Island thanks to three individual top-ten finishes from Maeve Cummins, Hannah Holland, and Ellie Haughton.
The Eagles locked in the second place finish with a grand total of 595. Carson-Newman finishes just behind Columbus State who finished with a total of 589. The 19 over par performance for Carson-Newman was good enough to secore them a spot over third place Central Oklahoma.
The second place finish is the third consecutive top-5 finish for Carson-Newman after finishing 5th at the UIndy Invitational and third at the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational.
Maeve Cummins led the scoring for the Eagle group as she was able to balance out her three bogeys with three birdies and draw even on the day. Her total score of 146 was good enough to give Cummins a share of fourth place.
Hannah Holland was the next closest Eagle on the player leaderboard. Thanks to a pair of birdies, Holland's 73 stroke day was good enough to give her sole possession of seventh place.
Ellie Haughton was the last of the Carson-Newman trio who finished inside the top-ten. Haughton's four birdies drew her even on the day and tied her for ninth place.
Sitting just outside the top ten for the Eagles was Ana Herrera. Herrera was able to string together three birdies to bring her grand total to a 151. Hererra finished the two round tournament with sole posession of 13th place on the individual leaderboard.
Ashley Holland, who competed as an individual, ends her tournament with a total of 161 and a share of 49th place. True freshman Caroline Nemes finished the tournament with a total score of 161 after shooting an 82 on day two. Nemes would finish the tournament in 61st place.
Carson-Newman women's golf shifts their action to the Flagler College Fall Slam in St. Augustine, FL, where their 2021 fall schedule will conclude.
