Women's Golf ranked twelfth in first NCAA region poll

NCAA DII Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Carson-Newman women's golf team earned the number twelve spot in the first NCAA South Regional poll announced on Wednesday, Feb.10.

It is the first time the women's golf team has been ranked in the NCAA South Regional since Apr. 18, 2019 when the team finished the 2018-19 season ranked 14th in the region. That season, Maeve Cummins earned an individual South Regional bid, finishing tied for 20th with a 225 three round total.

Teams that win their respective conference championship with receive automatic bids into each regional tournament. For each regional, the top-12 teams will play along with six individuals who are not on the teams included. From there, the top three teams and individuals in each regional tournament will garner a spot in the national championship.

The Carson-Newman women's golf team last played in the South Regional in 2011, appearing as the eight seed.

Four SAC teams are posted in the initial rankings, with Limestone at fourth, Anderson at fifth and Lenoir-Rhyne at tenth along with the Eagles.

Carson-Newman remains at 18th in the Women's Golf Coaches Association Poll, the last poll released in November 2021. The ranking comes after the Eagles recorded a pair of top-three finishes at the Jekyll Island Invitational and the Savannah Lakes Invitational in the fall.

The Eagles return to the links on Feb. 21 for the Battle at Hilton Head Island at the Robert Trent Jones Course in Hilton Head, S.C. To keep up with all of the Carson-Newman women's golf action, fans can head over to cneagles.com.
