No. 25 Carson-Newman sits in fifth after day one at Monticello

MCCORMICK, S.C. - The 25th ranked Eagles once again find themselves in the top five after one day of action thanks to strong outings from Hannah Holland and Maeve Cummins.

Hannah Holland paced Carson-Newman through the first day as she shot a 72, which put her exactly on par and tied for eighth. Right behind Holland was her teammate Maeve Cummins shooting a 73 in the first round, good enough for one over par and a tie for 12th.

Shortly behind Holland and Cummins was Ellie Haughton's 74, putting her tied for 17th at two over par.

Carson-Newman's Ana Herrera found herself in the middle of the pack as she shot a 79.

Rounding out the scoring for the Eagles on day one was the second freshman of the group Caroline Nemes, who shot a 82.

The exceptionally consistent effort from the Eagles was enough to lock them into fifth place after the first day of action in McCormick. The Eagles will return to action Tuesday morning to round out the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational. A full recap of the action can be found on cneagles.com
