Video: Kelsey Hutson Interview
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - After a strong showing at the UIndy Invitational and a national ranking, Coach Kelsey Hutson and the Carson-Newman Women's Golf team look to capitalize on some momentum headed into their second event of the year.
The Eagles head south to McCormick, S.C. where the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational will take place on Monticello, one of the most rigorous courses in all of Division II. This is the first time the Eagles have seen this course. While the territory is unfamiliar, Hutson's confidence is as high as ever.
Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland), the overall fifth place finisher last week at UIndy, will lead the charge for the Eagles once again. She will be followed by the only other upperclassman on the roster in Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England).
"I'm excited," Huston said. "It's gonna be a great week. Maeve Cummins and Ellie Haughton are ready to play. Those are our top two girls, and they are practicing hard every day."
The Eagles will also carry a national ranking into the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational. The Women's Golf Coaches Association Coaches Poll ranked Carson-Newman 25th after their performance at the UIndy Invitational. Hutson believes that can be a confidence booster for her girls. She says that "Hopefully that ranking will motivate our girls to perform better and want to move higher up in those rankings."
Hutson expects to see some conference foes this week in McCormick, as Limestone, LMU, and Anderson will be among the schools in the field.
The Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational begins Monday morning. Live scoring will be found on the Golfstat mobile platform throughout both days of competition. A full recap and results will make their way to cneagles.com following the conclusion of both days.
