JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Ahead of only their third event of the fall, Carson-Newman women's golf is ranked 15th in the country.
This is the latest ranking for Carson-Newman since debuting at 25th in the WGCA Coaches Poll in September.
Despite not competing in over two weeks, coach Kelsey Hutson's team finds themselves ranked amongst some of the best in the country. The No. 15 Eagles find themselves ranked ahead of conference foe No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne, but behind No. 3 Limestone and No. 7 Anderson.
In their two tournaments this fall, Carson-Newman has placed inside the top five in both events. Maeve Cummins had a hot start to the fall slate as she led the Eagles to a fifth place finish at the UIndy Invitational, and a third place finish at the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational. Cummins earned a national ranking of her own this week, as GolfStat ranked her as the 26th best golfer in all of NCAA's Division II.
Shortly behind Cummins in the player rankings is teammate No. 55 Ellie Haughton. Haughton and Cummins are the two only upperclassmen on Hutson's squad this year. Cummins boasts an adjusted scoring average of 73.13, while Haughton totes a 74.53. The two upperclassmen have a combined record of 5-8 against golfers ranked 26th to 50th, and a combined 32-5 agaisnt those ranked 51st to 100th.
The Eagles have hit the midway point for their fall 2021 schedule, and will return to action on the 18th and 19th of October at the Jekyll Island Invitational at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, GA.
