MCCORMICK, S.C. - Carson-Newman set a program record on Tuesday afternoon as they shot a collective 593, the second lowest group score in program history, placing them third at the Savannah Lakes Invitational.
Leading the scoring for the Eagles in round two was Ellie Haughton's 73. Her one-over performance moved her two-round total to 147. After shooting a 73 in round one, fellow upperclassmen Maeve Cummins shot a 74 in round two to bring her two day total to 147 as well. The juinor-senior duo found themselves tied for eighth in the final individual rankings.
Hannah Holland was able to finish just inside the top-20 after shooting a 78 in round two. The six-over performance brought her final score to 150.
After a rough first round, freshman Caroline Nemes was able to shoot for par in round two. The even performance shot her up 43 spots in the individual rankings, as she tied for 42nd.
Ana Herrera rounded out the scorecard for the Eagles, shooting a 76 in round two for a final score of 155. She finished the event tied for 46th.
Coach Kelsey Hutson was thrilled that her group was able to persist and walk away with an admirable performance. "The girls never stopped giving their all on the course. I'm really proud of Caroline who shot her career low of 72. To be a freshman and have that kind of day is special" Hutson said. "To place third, right behind Limestone who is ranked top in the nation is a big accomplishment as well. I'm excited to see what we can do in the next two events."
Carson-Newman returns to the green on October 18th as they travel to Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia for the Jekyll Island Invitational.
