No. 15/22 Eagles return to action at Jekyll Island

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's dually ranked women's golf team is returning to action this week after some extended time off.

The last time the Eagles were in action saw action was the last week of September when the schedule took them to South Carolina for the Savannah Lakes invitational. While there, Carson-Newman set a program record. The group of Eagles shot a collective 593, which was the second-lowest group score in program history. The historic day placed Carson-Newman third amongst the field.

Coach Kelsey Hutson's group of girls look to continue to build on a solid start. As the Eagles hit the halfway point of their 2021 fall slate, they sit comfortably on a fifth-place and third-place finish in their first two tournaments. Maeve Cummins and Ellie Haughton have consistently been at the top of the scoring card for the Eagles, which has earned both of the upperclassmen national rankings as individuals. GolfStat placed Cummins as the 26th best golfer in all of NCAA's Division II, and Haughton as the 55th best.

Carson-Newman now shifts their attention to the Jekyll Island Invitational at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, GA.

The last time the Eagles teed it up on Jekyll Island was fall of 2018. It was then that the Eagles, as a team, were the third-best par-4 scoring group with a 4.25 stroke average. They shot for par on 105 holes with 16 birdies, the third-most of any team in the field for both categories.

Maeve Cummins is the only current Eagle who was on the 2018 squad. As a freshman, Cummins finished with a share of 11th with a 152 total. She was seven-over in the second round.

The Eagles begin the two-day event on Monday morning. Live scoring can be found on BirdieFire, and a recap of each day can be found on cneagles.com.
