Cummins and Haughton tie for fifth at Low Tide Intercollegiate

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - A big final round from Ellie Haughton helped move the Carson-Newman women's golf team to a fourth place finish at the Low Tide Intercollegiate.

The Eagles finished tied for fourth with Columbus State, moving up two spots from their sixth place slot after day one. The Eagles shot a 14-over 302 on the final day, their same score as round two, to finish the tournament with a 57-over 921. 

As a team, Carson-Newman recorded the second best score on par threes, shooting nine-over for an average score of 3.15. The Eagles finished the tournament with the second-most birdies, carding 30 over three rounds. Aynsleigh Martin and Hannah Holland combined for half of those, with Martin leading C-N with eight birdies, the second-most on the weekend. Holland recorded seven birdies over three rounds.

"I'm really proud of the girls today," says Associate Director of Women's Golf Kelsey Hutson. "Maeve and Ellie placed in the top 5 for the tournament. After this week we know what we need to do to prepare for our next tournament at Sevierville Golf Club."

Haughton and teammate Maeve Cummins finished tied for fifth place at the Low Tide Intercollegiate event. Cummins shot a four-over 76 in her final round while Haughton shot an even-par 72 to both finish the week with an eight-over 224. Haughton has recorded three straight top-10 finishes while Cummins has finished inside the top-10 in three of her last four tournaments.

Haughton finished the event with the second-best score on par threes, carding a one-under and an average score of 2.92. Cummins meanwhile finished the week with 40 pars, the third most of the field. 

Caroline Nemes finished tied for 32nd with a final round three-over 75. Nemes finished the tournament at 20-over with a score of 236 over the three rounds. 

Hannah Holland finished tied for 44th with a three round score of 239 and 23-over. Holland carded an eight-over 80 in her final round. She finished the tournament at even-par on par fives this week. 

Martin rounds out the card for the Eagles, finishing tied for 50th with a 27-over 243. Martin shot a seven-over 79 in the final round. On par threes, Martin finished even-par at Mount Pleasant. 

Individually, Ashley Holland finished tied with Martin for 50th, also with a 27-over 243. Holland also recorded a seven-over 79 in round three. 

Limestone won the team championship with a thirteen-over 877, winning the tournament championship by 29 strokes. Ebba Hellman of Limestone won the individual championship, recording a three-under 213 over three rounds. 

Carson-Newman will take next week off before heading down the road to Sevierville for the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Mar. 13-15 at the Sevierville Golf Club Highlands Course.
