Chornei Takes First, Resende Competes in Semifinals of the ITA Regionals

SUMTER, S.C. - Anita Chornei wins the final in the consolation bracket. Ana Carla Resende takes her semifinal match into overtime at the ITA regionals Tournament.

Resende won her first set against number two seeded Nadja Meier with a 6-1 victory at 10:30 A.M. on Monday. Meier was able to bounce back against Resende with a 6-4 set to a tiebreaking set. Meier was able to outlast Resende to advance to the finals.

The final match included two Flagler College athletes, but Luisa Hrda took home first-place honors for the second year in a row. Hrda won in sets of 6-2 and 6-2 to take home the first-place medal.

Anita Chornei worked her way up in the consolation bracket to the finals match. Chornei won the first set 6-4. Chornei dropped the second set 6-4. Anita walked away the champ after a slugfest of a tiebreaking set with a final score of 10-8.

Julia Speiser played against Frankee Hendricks in the consolation bracket. Hendricks pulled away with back-to-back 6-2 sets for the victory.

Summer Reeves faced off against Katie Robeson in their consolation match. Robeson won the first set 6-2, but Reeves could force the tiebreaking set after a 6-4 victory. Robeson won 10-4 in the final match.

Violetta Khisamova worked her way into the consolation bracket but could not compete due to soreness.

The Eagles will return to action next Monday when they head back to Harrogate, Tenn., to compete at the Hidden Dual on Lincoln Memorial University's campus. The Eagles will face off against the Railsplitters and players from The University of Findlay.
