Eagles Topple Wasps for First Win of the Year

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (1-11) collects their first win in 342 days after defeating Emory and Henry University (4-9) on Wednesday, Mar. 29th.

The Eagles won every set of the day for the first time this season. Emory and Henry's only point of the day was due to Carson-Newman forfeiting the six spot.

Doubles

Natasha Forrest and Julia Speiser took on Sabina Chernega and Natalie Bergmann in the first doubles set of the day. The Eagles duo won the set 6-1. Forrest and Speiser are 5-2 as a pair this season.

Mollie Edge and Summer Reeves paired up to compete against Katie Bradley and Emma Charlton in the two spot. Edge and Reeves won the set 6-2, marking Carson-Newman's 12th winning doubles set of the season. Nine of Carson-Newman's 12 winning doubles sets have come against SAC opponents.

Carson-Newman forfeited the final doubles set but was awarded the doubles point due to winning two of the three sets.

Singles

Anita Chornei lined up in the one spot for the tenth time this season to play against Chernega. Chornei won shut out Chernega in the first set before winning the second set 6-2. Her 6-0 first-set victory marks her first clean sheet of the season.

Forrest matchuped up against Charlton in the two spot. Forrest won the first set 7-5 and was up 5-1 in the second set before Charlton had to retire from the match. The win marks Forrest's eighth in her last ten singles matches.

Reeves took on Bradley for the second time of the day after having competed against in her doubles action earlier in the day. Reeves pulled away late in the first set to win 6-4 before taking the second set 6-2. Reeves has won seven straight singles matches.

Speiser competed against Bermann in the four spot. Speiser took the first set in extra points with a score of 7-6. Speiser went on to win the second set 6-1.

Edge faced Nina William in the final singles matchup of the day. The pair played a single set to eight. Edge won 8-3 to mark her fourth singles victory of the season.

Women's tennis returns to action on Apr. 1st against no. 26 Wingate University (9-2). Doubles action begins at 1:00 P.M. at Wingate's tennis complex.
