Eagles Wrap Up Regular Season

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (4-13, 4-8 South Atlantic Conference) dropped their final match 5-2 in a clash with #11 Newberry (15-3, 10-2 SAC) on Saturday.

The Eagles need Coker to lose at Mars Hill on Monday, Apr. 17th, to clinch eighth in the conference and a postseason berth.

Doubles

Julia Speiser and Natasha Forrest won 6-1 against Sofia Cardenas and Rosie Harfield. Speiser and Forrest lead all Eagles in doubles victories with nine.

Summer Reeves and Mollie Edge dropped their contest against Ish Singh and Nastassia Chamoun 6-1. The Eagles forfeited the final doubles set, awarding Newberry the doubles point.

Singles

Anita Chornei won her eighth singles victory of the season when she took on Ish Singh. Singh won the first set 7-5, but Chornei rallied in the second set to win 6-3. Chornei carried her momentum in the third set to win 6-4.

Edge took on Harfield in the five spot. Edge won both sets with scores of 6-2 and 6-1 to claim her fifth consecutive singles victory, giving her eight on the year.

Forrest challenged Chamoun in the two spot. Chamoun won in sets of 6-2 and 6-0. Speiser fell to Cardenas in a single 6-2 set. Reeves lost her first set 6-3 against Aina Miralles but won the second set 6-4. Miralles captured the third set to win 10-6. The Newberry Wolves captured the 5-2 victory after Carson-Newman forfeited the final singles matchup.

If Coker loses to Mars Hill on Monday, then the Eagles will get a chance to continue their season against one-seeded Wingate University (16-2, 11-0 SAC) in the conference tournament starting on Apr. 20th.
