WISE, Va. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (3-12) wins their second game in a row after defeating Virginia-Wise (7-11). Excluding forfeiting the final singles match, The Eagles won every matchup of the day.
The Eagles won the doubles point for just the fourth time this season. Carson-Newman is 3-1 in those matches. The Eagles won every singles match for the first time since their 6-1 victory over Emory & Henry.
Carson-Newman is 3-1 since starting the season 0-11.
Doubles
Natasha Forrest and Julia Speiser took on Campodonico and Azinhaga in the first doubles set. The Eagles won 6-2 to mark their team-leading seventh win as a pair this season.
Mollie Edge and Summer Reeves won 6-4 against Lucy Cunliffe and Amelia Monteith. Edge and Reeves have won three straight doubles sets after starting 2-3 this season.
Carson-Newman forfeited the final doubles set but still clinched the doubles point after winning the first two sets.
Singles
Forrest lined up as Carson-Newman's one player for just the third time this season to take on Campodonico. Forrest won 6-4 and 6-1 to earn her team-leading 11th win this season and 44th of her career.
Anita Chornei, the ITA's 73rd-ranked singles player, won her seventh set of the season when she defeated Azinhaga in consecutive 6-4 sets. Chornei is 3-0 when playing as Carson-Newman's two-player.
Reeves took on Cunliffe in the three spot. Reeves won the first set 7-6 before shutting Cuncliffe out in the second set to win 6-0. Reeves is 7-4 as Carson-Newman's three-player.
Speiser defeated Monteith 7-5 and 6-3 in the four spot to mark her fourth victory of the season and the 22nd of her career.
Mollie Edge played a single set to eight against Emily Conn. Edge shutout Conn to win 8-0. Edge has won three straight.
Carson-Newman returns to action on Tuesday to play in their final home game against Mars Hill (7-10). Doubles action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M.
