Eagles Will Look to End Three Game Slump With Trip to Harrogate

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's women's tennis team (0-3) heads to Harrogate, Tenn., to take on Union College (Ky.) (2-0) on Tuesday, Feb. 21st.

Carson-Newman began the season 0-3 for the first time since the 2016 season when the Eagles finished the year 8-10. The three-game losing streak marks their longest win drought since the 2021 season when the Eagles lost four in a row in the middle of March.

Union College was picked 13th in the ITA Preseason poll. The Bulldogs are 2-0 to start the year after a pair of 5-2 wins against Johnson University and Lincoln Memorial University. The Bulldogs have two players on the ITA top 50 list. Teodora is number four on the list, and Rin Igarashi ranks 30th.

Union College finished last year 13th in the NAIA ITA rankings. They ended the season with a record of 14-6. The Bulldogs qualified for the Appalachian Atlantic Tournament but lost to 9th-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan in the semifinals. Union College went on to compete in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. They won their first-round matchup against William Woods University but lost 4-0 to the second-seeded Keiser University.

Carson-Newman's most recent matchup against Union College was the season-opener in 2021. The Bulldogs won the matchup in a tightly contested 4-3 match. The Eagles were scheduled to play the Bulldogs last season, but the match was cancelled. Carson-Newman holds a record of 2-3 against Union College. Their first meeting was on Feb. 26th of, 2007. The Bulldogs won 5-4.

Anita Chornei holds the best record so far this season in singles action. She is 3-0 so far on the year despite Carson-Newman's 0-3 start. She started the year in the two spot for the Eagles but saw her first action as the number one last weekend.

Natasha Forrest, Julia Speiser, and Mollie Edge each hold one win in three contests so far.

Doubles action will begin at 1:00 P.M. in Lincoln Memorial University's Indoor Tennis Complex.
