Eagles Trek to Sumter for SAC Quarterfinals

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman women's tennis (4-13, 4-8 South Atlantic Conference) is set to take on the second-seeded Tusculum Pioneers (15-5, 11-1 SAC) in the quarterfinals of the SAC Championship.

The Eagles barely squeezed into the eighth spot in the conference thanks to a Mars Hill victory over Coker on Monday. Both Mars Hill and Coker missed the tournament.

Charry's squad started the season 0-12 before finding their form in April. The Eagles won three out of five matches to earn a spot in the tournament.

Carson-Newman will take on Tusculum for the second time this season. The Eagles barely lost to the Pioneers during their first meeting on Mar. 15th. The Pioneers won 4-3 due to the Eagles forfeiting their final singles set.

Natasha Forrest and Summer Reeves notched winning matchups during their clash with Tusculum earlier this year. Carson-Newman also won their first doubles point of the season due to a 6-2 effort from Julia Speiser and Forrest, followed by a 7-6, 8-6 effort from Mollie Edge and Reeves.

Forrest led the Eagles in singles victories during the regular season, accumulating a record of 12-5. She primarily played as the two, where she earned a 10-4 record. She finished the season 9-3 against conference opposition.

Reeves was second on the team with ten singles victories. She saw the majority of her work as Carson-Newman's three-player, where she earned seven of her wins. She was also 9-3 against conference opposition.

Anita Chornei was Carson-Newman's one player for the majority of the year. She held a record of 8-9, including a win over #24 Ashleigh Simes on Feb. 28th. Chornei was ranked as high as 44th on the ITA's division-II singles list.

The pair of Forrest/Speiser led the Eagles in doubles victories with a record of 9-2. The duo won five straight to close out the season.

The Pioneers are currently riding a five-game win streak heading into the postseason. Within the last month, Tusculum has beaten #21 Anderson, #10 Newberry, #15 Wingate, and #34 Catawba. Carson-Newman's last win over Tusculum was last season on Apr. 6th when the Eagles won 5-2.

Doubles action begins at 9:00 A.M. at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, S.C.
