Eagles Show Perfect Outing at the Season-Opening Lincoln Memorial University Invitational

HARROGATE, Tenn., - Carson-Newman's women's tennis team begins the fall season with a perfect outing against Lincoln Memorial's squad.

"The girls played great from top to bottom," coach David Blank said, "the improvement from last season is there. We will continue to work on things in practice to try and get better, but I could not be more pleased with the group."

Ana Carla Resende and Natasha Forrest kicked off the evening for the Lady Eagles with a 6-3 victory in the number one position. Violetta Khisamova and Julia Speiser followed suit with a 6-2 win in the number two spot. Summer Reeves and Anita Chornei found themselves down by four in the number three spot but rallied for the 6-4 victory.

"We talked about being focused and having fun before the matches. There were a lot of smiles and positive energy on the court today," said coach Blank.

Ana Carla Resende played well for the Eagles in the number one position. She won her match with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. Violetta Khisamova won her first set with a score of 6-1 but fell 7-6 in her second match. She held off the opposition with a super tiebreaker victory of 10-6 to win the match.

"The ladies responded well today. They did everything that we could have asked from them," coach Blank said.

Summer Reeves played in the number three position, notching two winning sets of 6-3 and 6-2. Anita Chornei rose to the challenge in the number four spot to win back-to-back sets of 6-2 and 6-4.

Natasha Forrest dominated in the number five slot, winning in sets of 6-0 and 6-1. Julia Speiser also notched a 6-0 victory and a 6-2 dub. Maria Ulloa played today's hidden dual match, completing a  6-4 victory and a 7-5 overtime win.

"We are off tomorrow, so we are going to go home and rest up so that we can be ready to do it all over again on Sunday," said coach Blank.

The Eagles will look to carry this momentum to Sunday when they travel back to Harrogate, Tenn.
