The Eagles Close Out the Fall Season with Two Victories on Day Two of the Eagle Invitational

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman ends the fall season by winning seven out of 10 matches on day two of the Eagle Invitational against Tusculum and the University of Cumberlands.

Carson-Newman 4, University of Cumberlands 1

Violetta Khisamova began the day in the number-one spot for the Eagles. The Junior from Russia dropped her first set against the Patriots' Meiri Okuwaki 5-7. Khisamova was able to bounce back in her second set with an 8-6 overtime set victory. Khisamova completed the comeback by winning the final set 10-5.

Anita Chornei was slotted in the number two spot. Chornei dropped the first set 2-6 but won the next set 6-2. The Eagle won the tiebreaking set 10-6.

Natasha Forrest was dropped into the number three spot. The Senior won her sets in 6-4, 6-2 victories against the Patriots' Mikaela Fros.

Carson-Newman's Summer Reeves faced off against Catherine Rae. Reeves could not find traction in the match as she fell in back-to-back sets of 6-4, giving the University of Cumberlands their lone victory against the Eagles.

Julia Speiser lined up at the number five spot for the Eagles. The junior from Austria took down Laura Prieto in back-to-back sets of 6-4.

Carson-Newman 3, Tusculum 2

Forrest moved from the three spot to the number one spot for her final matchup in the fall season. Forrest won in sets of 6-4 and 7-5 against the Pioneers' Tabitha Howe.

Khisamova was bumped down to the number two spot for the Eagles in the second set of matches. Khisamova was unable to finish the match, giving Tusculum the victory.

Chornei moved down into the number three spot in her final action of the fall season. Chornei matched up against Ylva Landa. The Eagles' Ukraine native dropped Landa in sets of 6-3, 7-6, and 7-3.

Reeves lined up in the number four spot for the Eagles against Elodie Baecher. Reeves dropped her second match of the day in sets of 6-4 and 6-2.

Speiser closes out the season in the number five spot against Johanna Palacio. Speiser lifted the Eagles past Tusculum in sets of 6-1 and 6-4 to give the Eagles the 3-2 edge against the Pioneers in singles action.

The Eagles will keep practicing until they head to Thanksgiving break. The Team will resume gameday action when they head to Augusta, GA., to kick off the spring season against Augusta University on Feb. 4th.
