Doublet of Foreits Cost Eagles Their Fourth Loss

HARROGATE, Tenn. - Carson-Newman's women's tennis (0-4) extends its losing streak after losing against Union College (Ky.) on Tuesday, Feb. 21st. The Eagles dropped a pair of matches by forfeit, consequently costing them the match.

Doubles

In the match's first game, Natasha Forrest and Summer Reeves matched up against Rin Igarashi and Karen Kondo. Kitashita and Drukerova won by a score of 6-1. Reeves and Forrest fall to 2-2 as a duo on the year.

Mollie Edge and Julia Speiser won their first doubles match as a pair this year when they matched up against Mai Kitashita and Liliana Drukerova. The Eagles won 7-6.

Carson-Newman forfeited the third doubles game allowing the Bulldogs to take the point in doubles action. The Eagles have yet to win a doubles point this season. The Eagles are 3-9 in all doubles sets so far this season.

Singles

Anita Chornei lost her first set of the season when she matchup against Igarashi in the one spot. The Bulldog won the first game 6-1, but Chornei came back to win the second game 6-4. Igarashi, the 30th-ranked player in the ITA's NAIA rankings, won the third set 6-4.

Natasha Forrest played her second set against Drukeova after their doubles match earlier in the day. Drukeova won the first game 6-4, but Forrest was able to rally back to win the final two games with consecutive scores of 6-1.

Julia Speiser dropped her set in the three spot against Karen Kondo. Kondo scored 7-5 and 6-1 to win the set.

Summer Reeves notched her first win of the season when she lined up against Kitashita. Reeves recorded back-to-back games with scores of 6-1 to win the set.

Mollie Edge collected her second win of the year after her opponent retired during their matchup. Edge won the first game 4-1 before the premature exit by her opponent.

The Eagles fall to 0-4 on the year for the first time in at least 13 years. The Eagles fall to 2-4 all-time against the Bulldogs. Their last win came during the 2021 season opener when the Eagles won 4-3.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25th, against Lee University.
