Eagles place three in the top 15 in 4th place finish at Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ga.- Carson-Newman men's golf finishes strong to earn a 4th place finish at its first tournament of the fall season.

"Better rounds today, but still not a full team effort yet," Coach Randy Wylie said. "It was nice to see us move up into 4th place and improve from yesterday. It was a good finish for Elliot MacGregor and two newcomers Hayden Hunneke and Luke Stock."

C-N's team score for the invitational went 283-303-292 for a 4th place finish.

Sophomore Elliot MacGregor finished the event strong firing an even par round of 70. He birdied four holes, including three on the back nine. MacGregor finished tied for 6th. It's his second career top five finish. He had the second lowest average on the par threes for the two days.

Junior Luke Stock put together another 1-over 71 in the final round. He made three birdies, all of which came on par fours. The Oxted, England native finished the tournament tied for 9th.

Graduate student Hayden Hunneke shot a 4-over 74. He also made three birdies on the final day of action. The Farrugut native finished tied for 14th.

Fellow graduate student Jake Mynatt recorded four birdies en route to a 6-over 76. His round was plagued by a double and triple bogey on the scorecard.

Junior Aidan Powter finished his first tournament with C-N shooting an 11-over 81. His best stretch of holes came down the stretch when he parred four of the last five holes.

As an individual, freshman Ben Johnston finished his first collegiate tournament with an 8-over 78.

Carson-Newman had the second-best scoring average on par threes at 8-over and was tied for 3rd for most birdies made in the tournament.

Fellow South Atlantic Conference member Anderson won the team title by one stroke over Lee University.

Lee's Beck Burnette won the indiviutal title going 5-under for the tournament.

Carson-Newman men's golf returns to action on October 10th and 11th for the Queens Invitational.
