Trio of Eagles earn All-Conference honors

SAC Release

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the ninth time in program history, No. 15 Carson-Newman has placed three golfers on an All-South Atlantic Conference team, as announced by the league office on Friday morning.

Earning first-team all-conference honors were graduate students Jake Mynatt (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Hayden Hunneke (Chattanooga, Tenn.). C-N's third selection went to junior Luke Stock (Oxted, England) who was named to the second team.

It marks the third consecutive season that Carson-Newman has placed three golfers on an all-conference team. For each of the past eight seasons, C-N has been represented the all-conference teams by at least two players, with 22 honored during the stretch. Since 1998, C-N has 53 All-SAC recipients.

Thanks to his best season with the blue and orange, Mynatt earns first-team honors for the first time in his productive C-N career. He was an All-SAC Honorable Mention pick in 2019 and 2021, before leaping up to a second-team selection in 2022. After setting a career scoring average mark last year, Mynatt did the same thing in 2022-23, lowering the mark to 71.6. Mynatt's spectacular fifth season had many note-worthy rounds. His low round came in the second round of the Citrus Intercollegiate where she shot a 6-under 66, a career-best effort. That performance propelled him to a 12-under tournament and a second-place finish. He put together four other under-par tournaments, three of which he finished inside the top ten. After completing the final round of the Tennessee River Rumble, Mynatt registered his 118th completed round, the most rounds ever played in program history.

Hunneke burst onto the scene quickly in his first year with the Eagles. The first-team honor is the first of his career. In his first round of the year, he posted a 3-under 67 at the Cougar Invitational. He went on to record 12 more under par rounds this season. Hunneke finished five events under par and in the top ten, including four top five finishes. His 71.4 average scoring mark is currently the best in a C-N career and is third best in a single season, trailing Jonathan Nielson by .4.

Like Hunneke, Stock also earned his first career All-SAC honor, a second-team selection. Stock had a very productive season, recording nine under par rounds. In every first round this spring, Stock has shot under par. The junior's top finish came at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, where he earned fifth place after going 3-under for the tournament. His best tournament score was a 4-under effort in the final regular season event, the Tennessee River Rumble. Stock's low round came during the second round of the Irish Creek Invitational, a 4-under 67. He finished the regular season with a 72.5 scoring average.

Anderson swept the individual honors. Reece Coleman was named Golfer of the Year, Alejandro de Castro was named Freshman of the Year and Danny Neal was named Coach of the Year.

The Eagles trio looks to continue their stellar play as they lead C-N into the SAC Championships starting on Sunday.
