Eagles Rule the Roost in Day One of the BAC Invitational

BELMONT, N.C. - Carson-Newman's men's tennis drops just one of 14 matches as they dominate on day one of the BAC Invitational.

The Eagles faced off against West Virginia Wesleyan from the division two Mountain East Conference at noon on Friday. The Eagles combined for a total of 77 winning sets compared to the Bobcats' 23.

Carson-Newman then went on to play against an SAC rival in Lenoir-Rhyne. The Eagles outscored their opponents with 84 winning sets to the Bear's 19.

Marc Janse began the day for the Eagles, playing in the number one position against the Bobcats. He won his sets with 6-4 and 6-1.

Marnix Van Dalen capitalized on being in the number two position as he went on to win in sets of 6-3 and 6-3.

Gjorgji Jankulovski swept his opponent in his first set 6-0. The Bobcat tried to rally back, but Jankulovski proved too much for the West Virginian as he won 6-4 in the second set.

Senior Rintaro Oka was up 5-4 in his first set, but the Japan native had to retire due to an injury. This would lead to the men's tennis team's only loss on the day.

Ids Waterbolk finished singles play against the Bobcats for the Eagles, winning in sets of 6-2 and 6-1 in the number five spot.

Waterbolk and Jankulovski were matched up in the number one spot for doubles action. The Eagles pair won in sets of 6-2 and 6-1.

The Eagles went on to play against their SAC rival at 2:00 P.M.

Janse once again lined up in the number one spot for the Eagles. He took down Zachary Cox in sets of 6-2 and 6-1. On the day, Janse finished 24-8 as the Eagles' number one.

Waterbolk moved up to play in the number two spot for the Eagles in the day's second game. He was matched up against Connor Gibson. Waterbolk won in sets of 6-2 and 6-1. He finished the day 24-9.

Lars Hordijk saw his first action of the day against the Bears. He was matched up against freshman John Lacofano. The first set was the closest of the day without including Oka's set, which was shortened due to injury. Hordijk won 7-5 in the first set and 6-4 in the second.

Javier Crespo began the day in the number four spot for the Eagles. He matched up against Freshman Seth Bylund. Crespo swept both sets 6-0.

 Joshua Ott finished off singles action for the Eagles on Friday. Ott faced off against Joseph Cockman in the number five spot. Ott won in sets of 6-0 and 6-2.

Van Dalen and Hordijk began doubles play against the Bears in the number one spot. The duo won 6-2 against Lenoir-Rhyne's Joel Hemmings and Patrick Alvestrand.

Jankulovski and Crespo closed out the day for the Eagles, winning their duo set 6-2 against Jake Dalton and Andres Escalona.

The Eagles will resume action on Saturday when they face off against another SAC foe in Queens beginning at 2:00 P.M.
