Eagles Fall Against Nationally Ranked Bearcats

GREENWOOD, S.C. - Carson-Newman's men's tennis (1-2) drops their second game of the season after a matchup against #13 ranked Lander University on Monday, Feb. 13th.

The Eagles dropped all three doubles sets to give Lander the early point. Marnix Van Dalen was the lone victorious Eagle, defeating the 10th regionally ranked player in Ambroise Marchand.

Doubles: Lander 3, C-N 0

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka lined up in the one spot for the Eagles against Lander's Nick Beamish and Markus Sorensen. The Bearcats won with a score of 6-3.

Gjorgji Jankulovski and Javier Crespo Sanchez lined up in the two spot against Hugo Regner and Matthew De Groot. Regner and De Groot are the ITA's 20th-ranked pair nationally and the 4th-ranked pair regionally. The Bearcats won 6-3.

Ids Waterbolk and Lars Hordijk competed against Marchand and Alexandre Crepy. Hordijk and Waterbolk were defeated 6-4.

Singles: Lander 5, C-N 1

Marc Janse matched up against Hugo Regner in the number one spot. Regner ranks 29th nationally in the ITA rankings and sits 5th in the regional rankings. Regner won the first set 6-1. Despite a solid effort from Marc Janse, Regner won the second set 7-6.

Marnix Van Dalen faced off against ITA's 10th regionally ranked Ambroise Marchand playing in the two spot. Van Dalen won in back-to-back sets of 7-5 and 7-6. Van Dalen's win marks his first while playing in the two spot. He has a record of 21-13 in his career.

Rintaro Oka lined up against Matthew De Groot in the three spot. De Groot is the 17th regionally ranked player in the ITA rankings. The Bearcat dropped the first set 6-2 to Oka. De Groot rallied to win the second set 6-2. The third set featured a back-and-forth battle that saw De Groot win 10-8.

Gjorgji Jankulovski took on Alexandre Crepy in the four spot for the Eagles. Crepy won in sets of 6-2 and 6-3.

Ids Waterbolk saw Nick Beamish in the five spot. Beamish cruised to a first-set victory of 6-0 and went on to win the second set 6-4.

Lars Hordijk filled the six spot for the Eagles against Mouad Naoui. Naoui won in sets of 6-2 and 6-0 to mark the largest score deficit in the entire match.

The Eagles will move on to face off against Lees-McRae in a neutral site match set in Harrogate, Tenn., at Lincoln Memorial's Indoor Tennis Complex on Saturday, Feb. 18th.

Carson-Newman will look to avoid losing their third match in a row for the first time since the 2021 spring season when the Eagles went on a four-game losing streak, beginning with a loss 4-3 loss against Anderson University and ending with a 6-1 victory over Newberry.
