Eagles Begin Busy Week with a Shutout

WISE, Va. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (10-7) shutouts out UVA-Wise (9-10) to win their eighth conference match.

Carson-Newman remains fourth in the conference, but Anderson's loss to Tusculum last Tuesday leaves the door open for the Eagles to steal third place in the conference. The Eagles earn third place if they can win out, and Anderson loses a game against Catawba or Wingate.

Doubles

Carson-Newman won each doubles set for the fourth time this season, including three against conference foes.

Marnix Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk paired up for the 11th time this season to take on Dominik Thuri-Nagy and Pierre Djaroueh. The Eagles won 6-4 to extend their win total to 10. Hordijk leads all Eagles in successful doubles points with 11.

Oka Rintaro and Marc Janse lined up together for the 17th time this season. The Eagles duo won 6-0 to notch their ninth win as a pair.

Ids Waterbolk and Gjorgji Jankulovski defeated Gustavo Marangoni and Dominic Hoffman 6-1 to earn their ninth win as a pair this season.

Singles

Van Dalen lined up as Carson-Newman's one player for just the sixth time this season. He defeated Thuri-Nagy 7-6, 6-4, and 10-5 to earn his 11th win of the season and 31st of his career.

Janse lined up as Carson-Newman's two to take on Miguel De Rueda. Janse won in consecutive sets of 6-3 to notch his 13th win this season. Janse has a 5-1 record in the two spot and an 8-3 record as the one player.

Oka lost his first set to Vanja Vojinovic. Oka responded in the second set with a 6-3 victory. The Narita, Japan native won the final set 10-7 to mark his 40th career singles victory.

Jankulovski lost his first set 6-4 to Djaroueh but rallied in the second set 6-4. He was consistent in the third set to win 6-4. Jankulovski leads all Eagles with 14 singles victories this season, including ten straight against conference opposition.

Waterbolk played in a single set to eight against Marangoni. Waterbolk won 8-2 to mark his 47th career victory. Waterbolk's nine wins this season are fourth best on the team.

Hordijk earned his first shutout of the season when he swept Dominic Hoffman in consecutive 6-0 sets. Hordijk has won four of his five interconference matchups this season.

The Eagles will play their final home game of the season when they take on Mars Hill (4-13) on Tuesday. Doubles action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 P.M.
