Men's Tennis to Face Busy Final Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman will travel to Wise, Va., to take on The University of Virginia at Wise (9-10) on Monday, Apr. 10th. The Eagles will return home on Tuesday against Mars Hill (4-13) before playing their last regular-season game against Newberry (7-8) on Saturday. 

Carson-Newman currently ranks fourth in the SAC standings with a 7-2 record in conference play. The Eagles are just half of a game behind #31 Anderson (12-2), with a record of 8-2 in conference play. Carson-Newman handed the Trojans their first loss of the season back on Mar. 18th when the Trojans were ranked 17th in the country. The Eagles won 6-1 on Anderson's home courts.

#23 Wingate currently leads the conference with a 13-2 record and a perfect 8-0 record in conference play. #30 Tusculum is also perfect in conference play, with a record of 8-0 and a 12-4 record overall.

The Eagles rode a three-game winning streak in conference play before losing to Wingate 1-6 on the Mar. 2nd. The Eagles bounced back last Wednesday in a meeting with Lincoln Memorial University. Carson-Newman won 6-2 to notch their seventh conference victory.

Marc Janse has been the only ranked men's player this season. Janse is currently ranked 72nd in the ITA Division-II National Singles Rankings, marking his highest listing of the season. This year, Janse is 12-4, including eight wins as Carson-Newman's one player. He is also 1-0 against Nationally ranked opponents.

Gjorgji Jankulovski is on a team-leading nine-game winning streak. He also leads the Eagles in singles victories with 13. Jankulovski has an 8-1 record in the three spot and a 5-2 record in Carson-Newman's four. Jankulovski is also the only Eagle with a perfect record against conference opponents, having won 9 straight.

Marnix Van Dalen can earn his 30th career victory when he lines up against Virigina-Wise. Van Dalen is 10-6 in singles play and 9-2 in doubles action.

Virigina-Wise is on an eight-game losing slump after starting the season 9-2. The Cavs have struggled against conference play, losing all nine conference meetings. Carson-Newman is 3-0 against the Cavs all-time. The Eagles won their last matchup 7-0.

Mars Hill is on a five-game losing streak and is 2-7 in conference play. Carson-Newman defeated Mars Hill 7-0 last season.

Newberry has only won two of its last seven games. The Eagles are 5-12 all-time against Newberry but won their last matchup 6-1.

Action will begin on Monday, Apr. 10th at 4:00 P.M. at UVA-Wise's Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex. The Eagles will play Mars Hill at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex at 1:00 P.M. and then will take on Newberry at 1:00 P.M. at Newberry's Oakland Tennis Center.
