Eagles Win Third Straight Conference Matchup

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Carson-Newman men's tennis (5-5) remains undefeated in conference play after a matchup with Limestone University (4-3) on Saturday, Mar. 11th. The Eagles began the season 2-5 before winning three straight conference matchups.

Carson-Newman won the doubles point for the fifth time straight match. The Eagles are 5-1 when winning the doubles point this season.

Doubles

Gjorgji Jankulovski and Ids Waterbolk saw Andres Cortes and Luis Zamorano in the first slot in doubles play. Jankulovski and Waterbolk took down the Saints 6-3. The Eagles' duo advanced to 5-0 as a pair this season.

Marnix Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk took on Thomas Jouanneau and Rodolfo Villavicencio in the three spot. The Eagles won the set 6-4 to mark their fourth win in a row.

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka competed against Ramiro Rincon Hernandez and Diego Arzaluz in the two spot. The Saints won 7-6 in the first game and clinched the set with a 7-5  tiebreaking victory.

Singles

Janse took on Arzaluz in the one spot to begin the day. Arzaluz won the first game 6-4, but Janse rallied to win the second 6-4. Janse went on to win the tiebreaker 7-5 to advance to 7-3 on the year.

Van Dalen won his seventh matchup of the year when he saw Rincon Hernandez in the two spot. Van Dalen won in games of 7-5 and 6-1 to win the second singles set for the Eagles.

Jankulovski competed against Zamorano in the three spot. Zamorano captured the first game 7-6, but Jankulovski bounced back to win the second 7-5. Jankulovski completed the comeback with a 7-5 tiebreaking victory.

Oka won his third matchup of the season when he took on Cortes in the four spot. Oka shut out Cortes 6-0 in the first game before winning the second 6-4.

Waterbolk matched up with Barthelemy Bourdon in the five spot. Waterbolk captured his fourth win of the season when he defeated Bourdon in games of 7-5, 3-6, and 6-1.

Javier Crespo Sanchez lost to Jouanneau in the final set of the day. Jouanneau won both games 6-1 to secure Limestone's only point of the day.

Carson-Newman joins Anderson as the only two schools in the SAC with three conference wins. Anderson is 7-0 so far this season.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 15th, against Tusculum at Carson-Newman's Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.
