Eagles Back in Win Column

HARROGATE, Tenn. -Carson-Newman's men's tennis (2-4) returns to the win column for the first time in 17 days after their win against Union College (Ky.) (1-2). The Eagles took down the Bulldogs 6-1 on Tuesday, Feb. 21st.

Carson-Newman won all three doubles sets for the first time this season. Marnix Van Dalen and Gjorgji Jankulovski rack up their fourth singles wins of the year. The duo of Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka collect their team-leading third doubles victory of the year.

Doubles

In the one position, Janse and Oka lined up against Union College's Victor Lopes and Sebastionao Zorzi. Oka and Janse won their set 7-5. The pair of Janse and Oka climb to 3-3 on the year, with wins coming against Belmont Abby and Young Harris.

Ids Waterbolk and Gjorgji Jankulovski paired up in the two spot for the first time this season. The pair won against Harry Jordan and Joao Cardoso with a score of 6-2.

Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk won the final doubles match of the day against Henning Ebersohn and Niccolo Chiriatti. The Eagles pair won their first duos match together with a score of 6-1.

Singles

Marc Janse recorded his 43rd career singles win after his matchup with Lopes in the one spot. Janse cruised to a 6-3 victory in the first set and squeezed out a 7-5 victory in the second.

Van Dalen took on Zorzi in the two spot. Van Dalen was able to capture the first set 6-0 and won the second set 6-1. The 12-1 score difference is the largest margin of victory in a matchup so far.

Jankulovski played in the three spot for the Eagles for just the second time this year. Jakulovski defeated Chiriattia in the first set 6-3 but lost the second set 7-6. Jankulovski took the final set 6-3 to remain perfect in the three spot for the Eagles this season.

Ids Waterbolk faced off against Jordan for the second time of the day after their doubles clash. Waterbolk won the first set 6-3 but dropped the second set 6-3. The Eagles overpowered Jordan in the final set to win 10-6.

Javier Crespo Sanchez saw his first action of the day when he matched up against Ebersohn. Ebersohn captured the sole point for the Bulldogs with sets of 6-4 and 6-1.

Hordijk played just one set against Cardosa. Hordijk won 8-6.

Carson-Newman has climbed to 5-1 on Tuesday matchups since the 2020 season. The Eagles have just one more Tuesday matchup scheduled this year, a matchup with Mars Hill on Apr. 11th at home.

The Eagles have won two in a row against the Bulldogs to advance their record to 3-4 all-time.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25th, against Lee University. The matchup will mark the third neutral site game of the year, with all those games being played at Lincoln Memorials Indoor Tennis Complex in Harrogate, Tenn. Carson-Newman's two wins on the year both transpired in Harrogate.
