Carson-Newman Receives First Loss of the Season against North Georgia

DAHLONEGA, Ga. - Carson-Newman's men's tennis dropped their second game of the season against North Georgia on Sunday, Feb. 5th.

The Nighthawks outscored the Eagles 6-1 on the day to advance to 12-0 in their all-time series.

Doubles:

Gjorgji Jankulovski and Javier Crespo Sanchez were placed in the one position for the Eagles. The Nighthawks' Joaquin Benoit and Cole Brainard were able to best the Eagles in a 6-0 match.

Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka lined up in the two spot for Carson-Newman. The pair fell in a 6-3 match against Daniel Ostap and Robin Elden.

Ids Waterbolk and Lars Hordijk provided the lone bright spot for the Eagles in doubles action. The Eagles duo defeated Eliseo Alcalde and Giulio Sassi in a 6-3 match.

North Georgia took the point in doubles action because they won two out of the three matches, giving the Nighthawks an early 1-0 lead in the game.

Singles:

Marnix Van Dalen saw his first action of the day in the one spot for the Eagles. Van Dalen matched up against North Georgia's Benoit. Van Dalen lost the first set 6-4 before coming back in the second to win 6-4. Van Dalen dropped the final set 6-1 to North Georgia's ITA All-American.

Janse lined up in the two spot for the Eagles despite winning in the one spot against Belmont Abbey yesterday. Janse lost in sets of 7-5 and 6-4 against the Nighthawks' Christopher Cahour.

Oka dropped his sets against Ostap in two consecutive sets with scores of 6-1.

Jankulovski dropped his first set 6-0 against Brainard. The Eagle was able to rally back to win the second set 7-6. Jankulovski secured the only point of the day for the Eagles when he won the final set 6-1.

Waterbolk dropped his first set 6-4. The Eagle nearly came back against Elden, but dropped the final set 7-6.

Sanchez played in the six spot for the Eagles against Sassi. Sassi won in sets of 6-2 and 6-1.

Carson-Newman advances to 1-1 on the year after Friday's win over Belmont Abbey, marking the third season in a row that the Eagles began 1-1.

Carson-Newman returns to action on Friday, Feb. 10th, against Lander College. The first serve begins at 1:00 P.M.
