Eagles Crush Wasps in Midweek Showdown

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - No. 26 Carson-Newman men's tennis (8-6) wins their sixth conference match of the season after defeating Emory and Herny (4-11) 6-1 on Wednesday, Mar. 29th.

The Eagles ended March with a record of 6-1 after finishing February with a record of 2-5. Charry's squad is 15-6 in doubles sets in the last seven matches despite starting the season 9-12 in doubles sets.

Doubles

Gjorgji Jankulovski and Ids Waterbolk lined up as Carson-Newman's two pair for the 8th time this season. The Eagles pair defeated Diego Alvarez and John Billinis 6-1 to mark their 7th win of the season as a pair.

Marnix Van Dalen and Lars Hordijk filled the three spot for Carson-Newman when they took on Brandon McGuire and Branson Smith. The Eagles duo won 6-2 to mark this eighth consecutive duos victory.

Marc Janse paired up with Rintaro Oka in Carson-Newman's first doubles spot for the 11th time this season. The pair lost to Juan Alvarez and Kartik Parhar 6-2.

Singles

Janse, the ITA's 73rd-ranked singles player, took on Smith in the one spot. Janse won the first set 6-3 before shutting out Smith 6-0 in the second set. The win marks Janse's 10th consecutive singles victory. The second set clean sheet marks Janse's first shutout of the season.

Oka competed against Alvarez in the three spot. The Eagle won in consecutive sets of 6-2, marking Oka's fifth win of the year.

Jankulovski defeated Alvarez 6-0 in the first set before taking the second set 6-1. The 12-1 two-set point difference marks the largest difference of the day. Jankulovski has won seven singles matchups in a row. He is tied with Janse for most singles victories this season with 11.

Hordijk competed in a set to eight against John Billinis. Hordijk pulled away 8-1 to mark his 28th career win.

Joshua Ott competed in his second singles match of the season when he took on Brandon McGuire in the sixth spot. Ott won in sets of 6-4 and 7-5 to claim his first victory of the year.

Carson-Newman advances to 6-1 in conference play this season but remain in fourth place in the conference after Wingate, Tusculum, and Anderson all won their matches today.

The Eagles will have a chance to hand the no. 31 Wingate Bulldogs (10-2) their first SAC loss of the season when they meet on Saturday, Apr. 1st, in one of Carson-Newman's most important matchups this season.

Carson-Newman defeated the Bulldogs for the first time in program history last season with a score of 4-3. The two teams met 19 days later in the SAC Championship Quarterfinals. Wingate won 4-0.
