Garrett named SAC Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Courtavious Garrett was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for his performance during the second week of the indoor track and field season.

Garrett is a junior for the Eagles and competed with the team at the Bast-Cregger Invitational in Salem, Va. this past weekend. The invitational was hosted by Roanoke College as an unscored team invite.

The Eagles left the invitational with a slew of first-place finishes and five provisional qualifying marks among four athletes. Garrett accounted for two of those NCAA qualifying marks in the long jump and triple jump.

Garrett recorded 7.14 meters in the long jump and 14.74 meters in the triple jump. Both leaps afforded him a first-place finish at the Bast-Cregger Invitational. Garrett bested himself in both events and marked two new personal records in indoor competition.

"We wanted to shake the rust off, and we are very pleased with where we were," Carson-Newman head track and field coach David Needs said.

This was the Eagles' first showing of the 2022-23 indoor track and field season, and head coach David Needs will be announcing the remainder of the Eagles' schedule in the near future. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
