Charamba runs fastest 200-meter time in NCAA Division II at DII Pre-Nationals

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Carson-Newman shows consistency in final day of DII Pre-Nationals.

"We have so many to be proud of. Our team is showing consistency, and we have so many that continue to fight for us and push themselves to make finals," head track and field coach David Needs said.

Makanakaishe Charamba placed first in the men's 200-meter dash in 20.99 seconds, the quickest time in NCAA Division II.

"For Makanakaishe to run the best 200-meter in Division II is a testament to his dedication, his willingness to execute the race plan, and the strength of his relationship with his event coach Kieran Showler-Davis," Needs said.

Shane Connell won the men's high jump with a 2.00-meter clearance, and Oluwafemi Richards placed fourth with a height of 1.95 meters. In the women's pole vault, Abby Owens placed second with a 3.55-meter clearance.

"Shane Connell continues to take great looks at qualifying marks in the high jump. Same with Abby Owens in the pole vault," Needs said.

In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Matthew Blackmon placed fourth in 8.14 seconds. Kadidja Sangare finished seventh in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.91 seconds.

"Another performance I want to mention is the women's 400-meter. Tytiana is so reliable and consistent in the 400, and she challenges herself to be exceptional," Needs said.

Tytiana Wilson won silver in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 56.62.

"I'm proud of the group who made this trip. This was not an easy trip for the group who made the drive to Virginia Beach. It was a long trip and a new venue. It was a great experience to compete against some of the very best in DII. We look forward to being back in a month with many of our athletes at nationals" Needs said.

The Eagles will race again on Friday, Feb. 17 at the USC Indoor Open in Columbia, S.C. Stay up to date at cneagles.com.
