JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman head track and field coach David Needs has released the program's 2023 indoor schedule.
The Eagles will compete in seven events before the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships get underway in late February. Of those seven meets, only six remain as Carson-Newman began the indoor season at the Bast-Cregger Invitational on Dec. 9.
The team will travel to Virginia Military Institute this upcoming weekend to open 2023 in the Corps Physical Training Facility located in Lexington, Va. The two-day VMI Invitational will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13.
C-N will head to the Finn Pincus Invitational in Salem, Va. for a two-day meet beginning on Jan. 20 before heading back to Lexington, Va. to end the month of January at the VMI Winter Classic.
The Eagles will compete in the JDL College Team Challenge on Feb. 9 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The meet will take place in the JDL Fast Track, a facility that will later host the SAC Indoor Track and Field Championships in late February.
"We are looking for opportunities through great competition, great facilities, and preparation," Carson-Newman head track and field coach David Needs said.
The Division II Pre-Nationals are set to take place in Virginia Beach, Va. for two days beginning on Feb. 10.
"Our intent is broad, to obviously perform well and be ready for our conference and national meets; but also, to put a better version of ourselves on the track each time we compete. We worked a schedule that gave us a look at different tracks, both flat and banked," Needs said.
The University of South Carolina is hosting the USC Indoor Open on Feb. 25, which is an optional event for the Eagles. Immediately after, the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Feb. 25 and 26.
"We want to improve throughout the season and continue to better ourselves every time we compete. I believe that this schedule, along with our outstanding staff, can make that goal a reality," Needs said.
The Eagles will compete this weekend at the VMI Invitational at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13 and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14 to begin the 2023 indoor season.
