Men make history, ranked No. 8 in the nation

NEW ORLEANS, La.- Carson-Newman men's track and field was ranked No. 8 in week four of the NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National TFRI on Tuesday, April 18.

Carson-Newman men's track and field was ranked No. 8 in the NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the first time in program history. Teams are compared with only marks from the current season. The Eagles racked up 103.25 points in the rankings based on the first five weeks of the outdoor season. 

Most recently, Ashwin Jood won gold in the men's 400-meter dash in 47.33 seconds at the Electric City Invitational in Anderson, S.C. His time recorded a provisional qualifying mark in the event. Jood now holds the Carson-Newman track and field program record in the 400-meter dash. The previous record stood since 1976 when Larry Cook ran the event in 47.40 seconds. 

 Courtavious Garrett placed second in the men's long jump with a 7.14-meter leap. Raymond Brugmans represented the Eagles in the 3,000-meter steeplechase where he finished fifth in 10:08.51.

Carson-Newman men's track and field will be back in action this weekend at both the Lenoir-Rhyne Outdoor Open and Georgia Tech Invitational.
